Awkward Friendships

Our Journey

Our Journey

I wondered how to reach you
Not knowing where to start
Sometimes all the voices you hear
Are just that—

At first I looked at others
Observing their behaviour
A little smile, a straightforward hello,
A small hand wave, an awkward cheek-to-cheek,
A silent gaze.

I learned to mask the shyness
To soften the eyes
To adjust the brightness
Needed to blend in
All the while searching
For the ones who were most like me

They came slowly one by one
In times unexpectedly
When the little pieces
Of our hearts being torn
gifting it to each other
Without any conditions
Letting it flow
We began to feel less alone.
